Service Dog Training in Boston

Colonial Dog Training in Boston is proud to now offer a premier service dog training program! This program is led by certified and professional dog trainers and handlers. If you are looking to have your dog trained to assist you in service work  or perform tasks, this training service is for you!

What is the definition of a trained service dog?

Service dogs are trained to help and aid individuals with disabilities. This can be physical, mental, or medical. It can also be a combination of the three. Our service dog training in Boston is geared towards those that need a service animal for mental or physical aid. We do NOT provide medical alert service dog training.

Service animals need extensive socialization and additional training to ensure they can not only complete the tasks needed, but also that they can behave in public settings around other dogs, people and children.

Service dogs are allowed access ANYWHERE which is why it’s crucial to ensure that your dog is not only a good fit for task training, but also that they can work alongside the handler and behave appropriately in high stress settings.

What type of service dogs do we train:

How to Get Started with our Boston Area Service Dog Training

Take the first step and talk with our service dog trainer, who will talk with you about your dog to ensure they are well-suited for service dog training. From there you will need to complete basic dog obedience training with your dog, we generally do this through our in-home training packages. After that has been completed you will take the public access test. If your dog passes that test, you will then begin the task work training.

Please be aware that service dogs retire around 7-8 years old. We DO NOT train older dogs for service work.
