Boston Puppy Training: Prevention Goes A Long Way!

Expert Puppy Training in Boston

Colonial Dog Training provides a special puppy training program designed to prevent future behavior problems by teaching puppies the skills they need to grow into a well-mannered dog.

From first-time dog owners, to seasoned puppy raisers, everyone could use tips on how to train a puppy! We teach you, the dog’s family, how to communicate with your dog both as a puppy, and as he/she grows older. You’ll learn how to teach your dog:

  • Housebreaking (clear methods to get this done once and for all!)
  • How to relax in the house (puppies have energy, but hyperactivity is not “inevitable”)
  • How to control excessive behaviors like chewing and digging
  • Appropriate greeting behaviors – without the jumping, humping, barking, or charging!
  • How to meet your puppy’s exercise needs
  • How to train your puppy to walk on a leash

Our puppy programs are available to any dog who is at least 7 weeks old. Puppies in the 8 to 16 week age range are still in their critical socialization period, and can be easily guided toward good behaviors! After 16 weeks of age, a puppy’s behavior, as well as its mindset, shift toward that of an adolescent dog.

Prevention of Dog Behavior Problems Through Puppy Training

Did you know that the majority of dogs surrendered to shelters are surrendered before they reach 1 year of age? Puppy training is helpful to EVERY dog because it can prevent the very behavior problems that could have you considering rehoming your dog in a few months.

Many people assume puppies, like children, will grow out of certain behaviors. While this is true in some cases, it is certainly not common! Ask anyone with a dog who greets people inappropriately and they will admit the dog has behaved this way from the very beginning.

This brings up another important point: bad behaviors are so darn cute for puppies! “He’s so tiny and cute – I love it when he jumps on me!” What’s cute at 3 months of age is not so cute at 6 months of age. It’s frustrating at 9 months of age, and by 12 months of age, it’s a major issue.

Don’t fall into this cycle! By your relationship off right, you’ll avoid so many common behavior problems through the puppy months and into adulthood. Should you ever need more assistance, you’re always able to upgrade your puppy package to our exclusive commitment-based training package.

Whether you just got a puppy, or you’re about to get a puppy, puppy training is the best decision you’ll make for your dog! It’s an investment in good behavior, but more than that, it’s an investment in a good relationship with your dog.
