Boston Dog Training Methods

It’s very frustrating to hire a trainer and never see results. You may lose faith in trainers as a whole, but I urge you not to. Different trainers provide different methods. My method is to mold the training plan around your dog rather than offer a single, cookie-cutter solution that may or may not work, and so far this has proven successful.

I recently helped a woman who had hired two trainers prior to contacting me. Neither program worked, even though she continued buying sessions from the trainers for lack of other foreseeable options. Her dog, Lurch, was exhibiting leash aggression, leash pulling, and mouthing, and I’m happy to say I was able to help.

During the in-home consultation, Lurch growled both at me and an associate. He roamed around the home, begging for attention, and was clearly unhappy if he didn’t get it. At that point in time, he seemed to be all bark and no bite, but that could quickly change. We needed to get the behavior under control as quickly as possible.

I put together a successful plan that eliminated Lurch’s roaming and made sure his every move was dictated by his owner. This may sound a bit restrictive, but it was necessary in order to help Lurch see that his owner was in control. Basic obedience training, coupled with proper leash handling techniques, also proved effective. Lurch soon learned to focus on his owner rather than on distractions during walks. The key for Lurch was consistency, and, of course, moving at a pace that was right for him.
