Dogs Are Pack Animals – Learn How They Think With Our Boston Dog Training Program

Our Boston Dog Training program knows that dogs are pack animals. In the wild, they thrive on the structure that a pack provides–on knowing where they need to be and when and on knowing they are in a safe and secure environment with partners they cant trust. Domestic dogs need that same structure to thrive as member of a family.

Fear aggression can occur when this basis of trust has not been fully established. A dog is unsure of something and therefore reacts with aggression because he hasn’t been told to react otherwise or he doesn’t fully trust the person telling him to react in a different way. He doesn’t understand that the trigger isn’t actually something to fear.

I can help fearful, aggressive dogs understand that their owners have their best interests at heart. I can help them trust the leader of the pack.

Mila was a little dog overwhelmed by city activity. During her in-home consultation, I witnessed her barking at neighbors, and her owner told me that she was lunging on the leash at cars and bikes during walks. This is disconcerting for a number of reasons: If Mila pulls hard enough to get out of her owner’s grasp, she could run away and/or get injured. She could also successfully attack a bike rider or innocent pedestrian. It’s easy to see why walking the dog became a source of anxiety for Mila’s owner.

We got to work immediately. An instrumental part of the training program for Mila was basic obedience training. Basic obedience training taught her to pay attention to her owner instead of her own fear and her desire to face that fear head on. She learned what to expect from her owner and what was expected of her because her owner learned to communicate with her dog. She also learned to trust her owner to have her best interest at heart, so if the owner didn’t show fear and anxiety she followed her lead.

This program worked for Mila and her family. To learn what would work for you and your dog, give me a call today at 800.649.7297.
